Member Spotlight: Janet McCarthy

Tell us about yourself (name, education, work experience, hobbies, etc.)

My name is Janet McCarty, I hold an Associate Degree in Fine Arts, my work experience includes: Staff member of an Advertising Agency, Staff artist for a printer, Freelance artist and Office Manager for my owner-occupied Appraisal Company.

Tell us about your Italian Ancestry.

Both my mother’s and father’s parents were born in Italy.

How did you hear about / get involved with UNICO, how long have you been a member?

My husband Ray has been a member of the Bloomfield Chapter for many years. I joined the chapter in 2017.

How do you participate in promoting Service above Self?

Service above Self is very important. I’ve been involved with the collecting and sorting of clothing for Mark’s Closet, Chaired the “50’s Dance” fundraiser for the chapter and participated in the Christopher Columbus Pancake Breakfast.

What do you like most about our chapter?

“Service above Self!”

Tell us about your favorite memory since you’ve been a member of UNICO.

Christmas Breakfast at the Chandelier for Special Need Young adults, my husband winning the UNICO “Millie Grazie Award” for fostering a positive imagine of Italian Americans, new friendships but mostly, the helping of those in need.
