Intern Spotlight: Emily Tice

Intern Spotlight: Emily Tice

Tell us about yourself. (Name, grade, school, Italian heritage, a few things you do)

My name is Emily Tice, and I am in my Junior Year at Bloomfield High School. I play basketball and softball while also being actively involved in Bengal Paws. Bengal Paw members serve as ambassadors for Bloomfield High School and participate in many activities such as D.A.R.E., Read Across America, back to school night, and tour guides for new students during their first few days at BHS. I am also a Peer Leader which involves helping Freshmen make a smooth transition into high school, by creating events that help them feel more comfortable and possibly make new friends. My family and I also sponsor a Santa Night/Toy Drive every year, during the holiday season, for families in need. We advertise on social media and word of mouth for community families and friends to donate gifts and toys. Participants can spend time with Santa, take pictures, and share in some holiday spirit with hot chocolate and cookies.

How long have you been an intern and what have you done with UNICO so far?

As a Junior, this is my first year with UNICO. When the Bloomfield Chapter heard about my family’s toy drive, they were kind enough to make a generous donation. I am hoping, over the course of my internship, that I can do more things with UNICO and help them continue to make a positive impact in our community.

Why did you decide to apply for an internship?

I decided to apply for the UNICO Internship because my great-grandparents came from Italy and many amazing traditions have been passed down from them that have helped me learn about my Italian heritage. I enjoy being involved in my community and in my heritage; UNICO is the perfect opportunity for me to be involved with two important things in my life, my family heritage and my community.

What are your plans after graduation?

My plans after graduation are to attend a four-year university and earn my degree in Sports Management.  I would love to attend a Catholic University; but as of right now, I am undecided as to what college / university I will be attending.

How has being an intern at UNICO put your goals in reach?

Being an intern at UNICO has put my goals in reach by helping me step out of my comfort zone. I tend to be very shy and also overthink a lot of situations. Applying for the internship and working with UNICO, these past few months, has helped me become less timid and has given me opportunities to work on my confidence level. Something I know will help me in the future. The program has also helped me better understand real-life situations like working collaboratively with others, especially connecting with members of all ages.

How will you continue to stay active within UNICO and the Bloomfield community?

I will continue to stay active with UNICO through my Senior Year. Hopefully, when I am eligible, I will become a Youth Member. The past few months have been great, and I would love to continue with UNICO and be a notable member of the Bloomfield Chapter.
