Tell us about yourself (name, education, italian heritage, hobbies, etc.)
My name is Catherine Geraci, but I go by Katie Geraci. I am in 11th grade and attend Bloomfield High School in New Jersey. My Italian Heritage comes from both my mom and dad’s side of the family, especially my mom’s whose dad came to America from Italy. I love music and pursue that in my school’s choir and Madrigals. I am a member of my school’s Key Club, a volunteer organization. I am a part of my school’s softball team. Finally, in my free time, I love to do art and learn different mediums of it.
How long have you been an intern and what have you done with UNICO so far?
I am a new intern at UNICO, although I haven’t done much with them yet; I am very excited to get started and be a part of this organization. So far I have done the Bowl A Thon for Special Needs students and had a great time helping out!
Why did you decide to apply for an internship?
I decided to apply for an internship because I believed that it would be a good way for me to get used to working with a community of people outside of school. Growing older and going out into the world, I would like more experience in work places. I specifically wanted to apply for an internship at UNICO because I really do love serving others in the community and helping people.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan on going to a nice college and study Mathematics. One of my top college choices is Rutgers University. Along with this, I would love to continue pursuing music and volunteer work.
How has being an intern at UNICO put your goals in reach?
Although I have just become an intern at UNICO, I believe this position will put my goals within reach. The experience it will give me around new faces will help me later in life when finding jobs or looking for a community of people in college. This position will help me feel even more comfortable around all kinds of people and allow me to thrive in new settings. Overall, it will help me make my community a better place. Bloomfield will forever be my home in my heart and it is a goal of mine to make it the best it can be for its people.
How will you continue to stay active within UNICO and the Bloomfield community?
I will continue to stay active within UNICO for as long as I can by attending various events, contributing work and ideas on how to better the organization, in addition to participating more within the community. Similarly, I will continue to serve the Bloomfield community by doing service such as raising money, giving to those in need, and just generally putting a smile on people’s faces who need it.
